Yes, it would be best if you were to place them carefully in some handy vessel in which they may be kept safe. A teacup or tumbler or dish would do.
I'd prefer you not submerse them in any sort of liquid. More harm than good, potentially.
Best to bring them directly here; I'll take care of any restorative treatment that might be required.
